I,(Michele) have been into scooters and northern soul music since a teenager.Does anyone in Medway remember going to (THE REGENCY) King Charles, on a Thursday night.(what a buzz).Thats when i first dreamt of having a scooter.Obviously i had seen the film Quadrophenia (my bible) 20 or more times by then too..I still remember the wonderful noise as the scooters revved up in the hotel car park.It was great!!...I was only 15 then ,and couldnt wait to get my first scooter.Mum and Dad promised for my 16th birthday they would buy me one. That day came.Dad had told me meanwhile about the accidents he had on his Lambretta and the breakdowns and how hard it was to kick them over etc.So hopeing that they would make the right decision and buy me something a tad more reliable, they went off by themselves and chose a scooter for me.Which i wasnt too happy about, as choosing your own scooter is part of the fun of owning one in my eyes.Anyway that 16th birthday came and dad said we were going to pick the scooter up.....I was so excited,he had even chosen my skid lid to match the scooter he said. Finally got to a shop called Greys in Rochester/Chatham high st......Guess what they had bought me,..................................A BLINKING PK50....what a shitter. And yes, it was reliable, never fell off cos it was so bloody slow, and i got the piss taken out of me and probably still do...Dont you just love parents!!....So now that i am old enough to choose my own scooter, i have now got a PX125 with a 166 kit.Now i know what they mean by shit off a shovel, well it is compared to my PK50.Next mission is to get a Lambretta, and to pass my test this year.Wish me luck !!

Having preferred the safety of the car for the last 20 years my introduction to scooters has only been recent. Last summer Michele dragged me along to Flames & Frames at Hoo. I had split from my husband of 18 years and she took pity on an old friend. I can't say a cold tent in a wet field was quite the life of luxury I aspired to but the music and atmosphere was great. It was whilst getting a 'backy' from Paul Young of the Medway Aces that I decided I might like one myself. The planning at that point with Michele to set up our own ladies scooter club began. I bought a PX125 and began 'pinking it up' or rather Robbie 2 bulbs (Shell's other half) began. I did my CBT and then fell off the damn thing whilst doing an impromptu 'wheelie' on Cliffe Road. Please don't pretend you have never done this yourself! I realised being able to touch the ground with both feet might be helpful (after said wheelie) and am now having a DL125 with a 186 kit put in it restored by Alan and Kim at Medway Scooters. The bonus is my feet can touch the ground on this one. I'm picking the panels and legshield up from Si Clarke's this weekend, he's sprayed them with my new theme - Mellow Yellow from the old Donovan track from the 60's. Then Medway can build it for me.......woohoo!! So having turned 40 this year I've gone and bought 2 scooters and had a tatoo!! It's true what they say ain't it!! In summary, all my friends (including Chris - who's a special friend) are now scooterists and I've even learnt to dance to Northern Soul (always wondered what this was). Still have a kebab on the way home..........Can take the girl out of Medway.........and that's me, Andrea (they call me A cos it's easier when your'e drunk).
